The Traffic Circle of Hell

click to enlarge This morning, as I was making my morning commute on the train, I got to thinking about the hoops people have to jump through just to get work every day. Whether you're on the I-10 in L.A., I-93 in Boston or Chicago's lovely "Hillside Strangler," being stuck in traffic is absolutely wretched. Sitting in a car for two hours in the morning surrounded by polluted air and the malevolence of a thousand angry corporate drones simply cannot be good for you. Stress kills people. People kill people. There has to be a better way. Telecommuting? Vacuum tubes? It would be nice if everyone could just take public transportation. Too bad that takes funding, which is busily being siphoned off to line the humidors of certain unsavory state officials. Ah, well, I'm rambling...perhaps it's time to go and make a dent in some of that homework...

That is why all the cars in town, follow you all around...

Rush hour is actually a brilliant ploy by corporate viziers to juice the last drop of working blood out of their employees. As any drone with half a functioning neuron soon realizes, the only way to avoid the daily deadlock is to leave for work at around 4am, and come home around..oh, say, 10pm.

This strategy is in turn applied to the wonderful world of outsourcing. Did you know that the best time to use an outsource company in India is the summer? That's because the wage-slaves working in the outsource companies will spend 50% more time working on your project than you're paying them for...mostly because while their offices are deliciously air-conditioned, they don't actually make enough to afford doing the same for their homes.

Oh. And I'd abandon all faith ye who employ publick transporte. The big 5 auto-companies have a lobby group that makes the A-bomb look like a party favour and spend profligately to block, lard down and fillibuster to death any bill involving public transport. Curiously, many of their top execs are also ardent investors in big oil and the Carlyle Investment Group.

Mmm. Cronyism. ;)

Cheers,
Jack
